Donauworth to Rain

Today was a short ride, only about 25 km to Rain.  We wanted to break up the long distance to Augsburg, and this was the logical intermediate stop.  The ride was quite nice, with some stretches along the Danube and several very steep (but mercifully short) climbs.  At the top of one climb, in the village of Leitheim, is a lovely old castle turned into a hotel.  Hazy skies but great view of the Danube down below.

Before crossing over the Danube we rode down a dirt path to find this lovely rest spot along the river.

With the short distance we were at our destination just after noon.  Rain turned out to be a surprisingly lovely little town.  Great food, quiet, and home to the truly amazing Dehner Blumenpark (flower gardens).  Dehner is a large gardening company, and headquartered here.  They have many acres of manicured grounds showing off a huge range of plants, plus a large (big box store size) retail outlet, cafes, and playgrounds.
