From Blitterswijk to Groesbeek

We knew we wanted to continue a bit further following the Maas today, but also start working our way over toward the Rhine.  Did a little looking at possible destinations last night but hadn't decided.  At breakfast this morning we talked with the other guests in our B&B, two Dutch couples who are also cycle touring.  One suggested Groesbeek, we found a nice hotel and booked a room, and here we are.

Our route from Blitterswijk started out with the small ferry we'd walked to last night for a before-dinner beer.  After crossing, we continued more or less following the Maas, with lots of zigging and zagging as the route worked its way around farms, through forested parkland, and through several villages.  A lot of today's stage was on hard-packed dirt paths.  The bike was in dire need of a cleaning by the end of the day.

We stopped for cake in the small and bustling town of Gennep.

Scattered along the cycle routes are these trash bins designed so that passing bikers can toss in while riding by.

Just before the ferry across to Cuijk we left the Maas Route, which we'd be following since Maastricht, to work our way toward Groesbeek.  We used the Fietsknoop app to plot a route and started climbing into hillier terrain.  53 km for today.  The hotel we'd reserved is quite nice, and we even have a private balcony.  It was a short walk back into town for dinner.

Another day, another beer (wine for Ellen).
