Riding out of Trier to the bike path was easier than riding in and finding our hotel.

In short order we were back on the Mosel heading west-ish. After about 12 km we reached the town of Wasserbillig, where the Sauer flows into the Mosel.
As luck would have it, when I stopped at the corner there to read the maps and verify our route, there was a tourist information center (which also rented e-bikes). The very helpful young woman inside gave us a few pointers, and we talked about some alternative routes to the Vennbahn. The river is the border between Luxembourg and Germany, so as the bike path crossed back and forth we were crossing the border too. The signage would change between German and French each time we crossed over. The river's name is Sauer on the German side, Sûre on the French side. After the Mosel, this is a much smaller and quieter river. Villages are small and very little traffic. The ubiquitous vineyards of the Mosel have given way to smaller farms of wheat, corn and hay.
We continued north to the town of Echternach, on the Luxembourg side, about 40 km for the day.
There are a few nice hotels in the small center of town. I had to try a few languages with the person who helped me at Le Petit Poette until we settled on Spanish (my German and French are both weak).
After cleaning up we set out to explore around the town. The WW II Battle of the Bulge went through this area, so most of the buildings are newer. Old churches which still stand all have newer stained glass (we saw the same in Trier).
This "shop" right off the main square is nothing but a small room with a vending machine. Even though all the bud for sale is indicated as having no THC, we saw some names we recognize that (at least in Oregon) are relatively high on that scale.
Up to now we've not been seeing a great deal of beer variety (but we've been mostly drinking local wine along the Mosel). Here's a local Luxembourg brew which went well with the Chinese food we had for dinner.
